Pukaha Mount Bruce National Wildlife Centre

A Department of Conservation breeding centre which offers magnificent bird viewing opportunities amongst primeval forest. Kiwi, kokako, kaka, stitchbird, takahe, kakariki and black teal (New Zealand scaup) highlight the easy walk around forest paths. Visitors can get breathtakingly close to wild kaka at 3pm feeding and watch wild eels feed at 1.30pm. Displays and an audio-visual explain bird conservation in New Zealand.
Cost of entry (2003): $8 adults, children under 17 years free.
