French Pass Sea Safaris situated in the Marlborough Sounds and offer an outer-island tour to a closed nature reserve. These tours are available through a special department of Conservation concession, under the Reserves Act 1997 and the Conservation Act 1989. Yellow crowned parakeet, bellbird, tui, South Island robin, fantail, pigeon and other species can be seen. Marine mammals include NZ fur seal. Dusky and bottlenose dolphins are also regularly seen.
Seabirds include the rare king shag which is endemic to the area, blue penguin, shearwaters, terns, gannets, gulls, diving petrel, skua, pied, spotted and little shag. Waterfront accommodation (watch dolphins from your window) is also available.
