Taiaroa Head is the only mainland breeding ground of any species of albatross, and there is nothing that compares with the sheer exhilaration of having a huge Northern Royal Albatross with an over three-metre wingspan glide effortlessly and silently over you, just a few metres away.
A guided walk to the Richdale Observatory enables viewing of these magnificent birds in all seasons. The Royal Albatross Centre welcomes visitors all year round offering superb educational displays on all wildlife in the area. A gift shop and a cafe with a BYO liquor license complete facilities at the complex.
