Kaikoura Wilderness Walks

This unique wilderness encounter
is an opportunity to be guided
through the highest privately
owned land in New Zealand.

During this 3 day/2night or 2 day/1night walk our guides will share their
stories and show you the extraordinary range of rare and endangered flora
and fauna.
Accommodation is at Shearwater Lodge. At 1000m our eco friendly lodge
provides a total sanctuary in an alpine environment that boasts outstanding
birdlife and expansive alpine vistas.
The Puhi Peaks Nature Reserve is home to one of only two colonies in the
world of the endangered Hutton’s shearwater (Puffinus huttoni) which nest
high in the mountains. The Reserve is also New Zealand’s eastern most habitat
for kea, the famous (or infamous) alpine parrot. Other bird species likely to be
seen are the bellbird, rifleman, fantail, tomtit, NZ pipit, South Island robin, NZ
pigeon, NZ falcon, harrier hawk, introduced finches and more.
Our family operated business offers a
unique mix of professionalism combined
with attention to detail, home comforts
and a commitment to our guests having
an outstanding wilderness experience.
