Myths and Legends Ecotours

Join Pete & Takutai on a personalised birdwatching expedition tailored to your interests on their 76 year old classic launch "Tutanekai" in the beautiful Marlborough Sounds. Pete's family go back six generations, Takutai's eighty generations. Their kaupapa (ideal) is to provide a very educational experience sharing their knowledge of the history, culture and environment through the forgotten art of story telling. Relax as you journey to the outer Sounds where a variety of seabirds may be seen along the way like the very rare king shags, gannets, fluttering shearwaters, oyster catchers, terns, spotted and pied shags. You may encounter marine mammals - the NZ fur seal, bottlenose, Hector and dusky dolphins. Let Takutai take you on a guided walk on an island bird sanctuary with some of NZ's rare birds like the saddleback, kakariki, South Island robin, NZ native falcon and other species - bellbirds, tomtit, tui, fantail. Experienced birdwatchers have been amazed at Takutai's uncanny ability to identify and find birds that they hadn't seen or heard.
