Mapua Adventures
The Waimea Estuary is the largest in the South Island and is an internationally significant habitat for migratory waders. Our tours provide a comfortable, intimate and comprehensive experience and allow close encounters with the abundant birdlife including Godwit, Royal Spoonbill, White Heron, a Caspian Tern colony and many other bird species.
Tours generally operate three hours either side of high tide between November and April. Private charters are available year-round. Bookings are essential as tours cater for 2 to 8 passengers per trip. Mapua Adventures operates from Mapua Wharf, just 30 minutes from Nelson and home to several great restaurants, galleries and one of New Zealand’s best aquariums.
