New Zealand Dotterel

As far south in the Pacific Region as scheduled travel services allow you to go will bring you to Rakiura/Stewart Island - a rare find, a place that elicits awe, relaxing and invigorating all in one. Welcome to our take on this unique isle, the place we call home, and where you will feel right at home.

The Southern Limits story starts with Brett, a born ‘n’ bred islander, whose blood line goes back four generations to the early European settlers. To this perfect haven he lured his wife Kate, a leading coffee guru & animal behaviourist. For us it's all about keeping it real. Support it, Create it, Love it. Keep it Local!

Southern Limits is offering you a memorable experience to visit the jewel in the crown we call Ulva Island.
Within minutes of your comfortable accommodation you can be walking amongst pristine unmilled ancient Rimu rain forest, or enjoying the intense morning and evening chorus of our beautiful native birds. Investigate the mini ecosystems of the forest understory of ferns, lichens and mosses or study the intertidal zone along our unpolluted shore line.

As soon as you step off the boat onto the Island, the air is alive with the sound of Tui and Bellbirds. A symphony of song, the melodious tunes of the Bellbird and Tui are punctuated by the raucous call of the Kaka and the chattering Kakariki.

Depending on the time of year and the availability of seasonal foods, some of the other birds which may be seen include; Kereru (Wood Pigeon), Pipipi (Brown Creeper), Ngirungiru (Tomtit), Piwakawaka (Fantail) and Tokoeka (Stewart Island Brown Kiwi).

Tieke(Saddleback), Mohua (Yellowhead), Toutouwai (Stewart Island Robin) and Tîtipounamu (Rifleman) are also present after being re-introduced since 2000.

Southern Limits offers generations of local knowledge, for these outstanding trips. Ulva Island offers us well maintained tracks & unique experiences.
