NEW ZEALAND's BIRDS

Paradise shelduck

(Tadorna variegata) - (Putangitangi)

The female shown here is unusual in that she is more brightly plumaged than the male. An endemic duck, it is widely distributed and often seen throughout New Zealand on our trips. They are one of the few native endemic species to have thrived as more suitable habitat has been created. These ducks stay together for life. They make a fantastic subject for a photograph.
