DRIFTWOOD RETREAT AND ECO-TOURS
Operating since 2004, Driftwood offers tours and accommodation at the Wairau Lagoon, Marlborough. This waterway offers the unique opportunity of getting close to royal spoonbill and 92 other species of bird, including black fronted tern, bartailed godwit and wrybill.
Driftwood’s stable kayaks are ideal for getting close to birds to get that perfect picture. Private van tours are available for birding tours throughout the top of the South Island.
Driftwood Retreat’s private wetland is the home to glossy ibis and occasionally marsh crake, fern bird and Australasian bittern.
Waste water treatment wetlands which can be easily accessed, are perfect for viewing visiting water fowl.
See the website for scheduled tours seeking birds like the black kite, crested grebe and New Zealand falcon.
