From the water is the natural way to see the world’s only mainland breeding colony of Albatross (Northern Royal) with nine other species of nesting sea birds – blue penguins, variable oyster catcher, sooty shearwaters, gulls (2 species), shags (3 species) and Royal spoonbills, a breeding colony and bachelor male haul-out of New Zealand fur seals and ocean species including other species of albatross, shearwaters, petrels and marine mammals. A variety of daily tours are available from one hour to one day. Evening meal cruising from Dunedin and Wellers Rock.
Monarch is a vintage ex-fishing boat which has been taking cruises on Otago Harbour and around Taiaroa Head for 28 years, her longer tours depart Dunedin and encompass a Harbour cruise featuring wading birds both resident and migratory, geological and cultural features, and a choice of at least one land tour: scenic Otago Peninsula Drive, Yellow-eyed Penguin Reserve, Royal Albatross Centre & Richdale Observatory, and Larnach Castle. One hour cruises depart Wellers Rock on Otago Peninsula.
