Nga Manu Nature Reserve

Nga Manu provides an opportunity for visitors to see a diverse range of New Zealand native flora and fauna. Nga Manu Nature Reserve is well suited to eco-tourism and can cater for groups or individuals. The bird life at Nga Manu is free to come and go in 15 hectares of bush & wildlife pond areas. Wood pigeon, tui, fantail, paradise ducks, scaup, shoveler, black swan, welcome swallow, harrier hawk, kingfisher and many other native birds can be seen. Birds in aviaries are held for captive breeding programmes, have been hand-reared or are injured and would not have been able to fend for themselves. Many of the native plants are labeled with information text to provide visitors with some assistance in identifying plants. A nocturnal house is home to the kiwi, tuatara, morepork and many other displays. Nga Manu is one of the few places in New Zealand that the overseas visitor can experience so much of the diversity of our flora & fauna in one place.
