Sails Ashore boutique hosted accommodation & Sails Guided Walks and Tours in a single package offers the very best of Stewart Island and in particular Ulva Island Open Sanctuary.
Iris and Peter are your hosts and guides and have over 60 years combined Island life between them. Peter was one time Ranger in Charge for Stewart Island and involved in early Ulva Island management. Iris was a Foundation Trustee of Ulva Island during the first of the endangered species liberations as well as the recent Kakapo viewing. Check out the birding page on our web site for a list of species you might expect to see on Ulva, their photographs plus some with song and short video. Our walks are more like nature rambles.
Party size is small, and we are happy to offer guests an exclusive experience. In addition we have our own large charter yacht and so can offer pelagic viewing and in fact customise charters to suit guests requirements.
Sails Ashore overlooks Halfmoon Bay and is everything you would expect from Qualmark 4 Star Plus rating. In the evenings our extensive library of natural history and local interest DVDs and books enables you to enjoy an in-depth look at places and birds not so easily accessible.
What better way to learn about the Island birds than over breakfast, chatting to Iris & Peter with a glorious sunrise and Kaka feeding on our balcony as a distraction
