Shore Plover (Tuturuatu)

Species: Thinornis novaeseelandiae

Breeding areas
South East I & Western Reef, Chathams Group with translocated birds and Portland Island (Mahia Peninsula, northern Hawkes Bay). Formerly widespread through coastal NZ. Two birds were at Beehive Island in the Hauraki Gulf*
Breeding season
October to February
Dispersal migration
Some birds have been seen away from localities listed.

* The Dept of Conservation, amidst great opposition removed the two birds (both males) from Beehive Island in the Hauraki Gulf.
To have any chance of seeing these birds, birders will have to go the CHATHAM ISLANDS, or Mount Bruce Wildlife Centre to see these special very birds in cages!
